Enough about that, let’s get started.

In Act One, Sarah Christian Love overheard a group of teachers, sharing their opinions about Black History Month, and it caused her a great deal of pain. In Act Two, which we will focus on today, Sarah walked into her friend and colleague’s office, seeking advice. Of course, the first thing she said was, “I quit! I can’t make a difference here. What was I thinking?” However, it was obvious to her friend that she needed “wise” counsel. As a response, she said, “Well, I can see that they hurt you, but quitting isn’t the answer. Our students deserve to have educators who will stay and fight for their right to learn about their history.”

Well, as I thought about Dr. Maxine Thompson’s response to Sarah, I was led to read Proverbs 13:20 NIV. It states, “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffer harm.” As believers in Christ Jesus, we understand that no one is wiser than our Father, so we spend time with him by reading the bible, praying, meditating, and talking to him daily. However, there are times when we talk to our brothers and sisters in Christ about our troubles, and we need to seek WISE counsel when it is needed. The word wise is an adjective and it describes a person who has experience, knowledge, and good judgment.

Sarah confided in Dr. Thompson because she had the ability to listen to what she said but speak to the heart of the matter. That’s wisdom that only God can give us! By the way, just because a person goes to church and claims to love the Lord doesn’t mean he or she has the best judgment and can speak to the heart of the matter. In fact, confiding in the wrong person could cause us to give up before the harvest is ready. (Subscribe for free and read the blog, I Quit. I discuss this further during that post.)

So! Who is your person? Maybe it’s time for a little soul searching.
