The Word of God

updated 6/10/2026

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV).

Background

The attack on the word of God is nothing new! Satan has been attacking the word since the Garden of Eden. Think about it! God said to Adam, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die” (Genesis 2:16-17). In Genesis 3, the serpent asked Eve, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” Eve replied, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” This is a very familiar passage of scripture, but I wanted to point out a few things on this soul searching journey.

1). In her reply to the serpent, Eve said, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” Did you hear that? Eve omitted parts of God’s commandment about the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and she added to it. When we are not rooted in God’s word, we are setting ourselves up to be deceived by the enemy.

Think About It

Ask Yourself this Question

What questions are the enemy asking you about God’s word? Are you equipped to answer them? Go to the Father and allow the Holy Spirit to reveal these things to you.

The enemy came into the garden and questioned Eve about God’s words. She walked with God in the garden, but she was not rooted in His word. She added to and subtracted from God’s commandment, and it opened the door for the enemy to deceive her. And while we would love to get on our spiritual high horses and shame her about the decision she made, we do the same thing every time we contradict the word of God.

Did God Actually Say…?

“Did God actually say…?” This is the first question we find in the Bible, and we know how that turned out for us (Genesis 3). The enemy was not seeking truth; he wanted to deceive Eve and Adam. Unfortunately, he still wants to deceive us today. Mark 12:31 tells us to love our neighbors. The parable of the Good Samaritan defines our neighbors (Luke 10:25-37). Yet, Satan whispers in our ears, “Did God actually say to love all of your neighbors? What about the ones who don’t love Jesus?”

While he rejoices over their unbelief, he preys on our emotions to keep us from witnessing to them. For example, one of my social media friends posted a disparaging remark on their page about Jesus. I was livid. I blocked that individual in the name of Jesus, and I promised myself that I would have nothing to do with them again! If that isn’t the devil, I don’t know what is. As believers in Christ, we can’t turn our backs on unbelievers. That is not the heart of Christ.

Think About It

1). Judas betrayed Jesus, and He still called him friend (Matthew 26:50).
2). Jesus was crucified and he prayed, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34).
3. When Jesus rose from the dead, Thomas needed proof that it was really Him. Jesus did not get angry or offended. He didn’t leave him in a state of disbelief. He met him where He was and He restored his faith in Him (John 20:24-29).

Yet, I turned my back on a social media friend who questioned my Lord and Savior’s existence. What the enemy tricked me into believing was loyalty was actually disobedience. Instead of blocking the individual, I should have prayed, “Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

So, what about you? What should you have said or done? Think about it. Then, go to the Father and pray about it.
