“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord…”

Background
According to my Bible plan, I’m reading 1 Chronicles this week. Chapters 1-9 focus on the genealogies and historical details that highlight the lineage and legacies from Adam to the Israelite people. This is very interesting to me. Children, in general, brought families a lot of joy and respect in their communities; however, a male heir preserved the families lineage and inheritance.
Psalm 127: 3 states, “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.” A heritage refers to the inheritance or legacy passed down from one generation to the next. As I thought about this, it came to me that every parent or guardian has an inheritance from the Lord. This reward is not earned; it is by God’s grace and mercy. Whether He blesses us to be biological parents, adoptive parents, foster parents, godparents, stepparents, or guardians, our children are our inheritance from God. For example, Joseph was not Jesus’ biological child, but Jesus was his inheritance from God. He trusted him to father Jesus. Ruth gave birth to Obed, but Naomi’s inheritance was secured when she received him in her arms. I didn’t plan to write this part, but someone needs to understand that inheritance is from God, not solely a matter of biology. Hallelujah! Thank you, Jesus! So, what are we doing with our inheritances today? A better question is, do we view children as an inheritance from God?
In our society, people have many discussions revolving around children. One discussion that comes to mind involves when their lives actually begin. Is it the moment of conception, when their heartbeat is detectable by a medical professional, or when the fetus can live outside the womb? Should unborn babies have rights? Do they have purpose outside of their parents? These questions challenge us. These questions divide us. These questions place religious principles in opposition to science, even though God is the creator of all things. They place human rights in opposition to God’s plans and purposes. How we answer these questions will determine whether we speak life or death over the next generation. Before we go any further, I would like for us to think about it. Then go to the Father and pray about it.
Dear Heavenly Father,
“Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!”
Abortion is a sensitive topic in the body of Christ. Some believers are pro-life, while others are pro-choice; both groups cite scriptures to support and anchor their beliefs and actions.
The word “abortion” is not in the Bible; however, your heart for your children is. In regard to this topic, Father, we want to be in your will. Lead us in the way everlasting.

Think About It
The word “abortion” does not appear in the Bible, as so many have said, but God’s heart for His children is clear throughout Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation. His love predates the womb and extends far beyond the grave. God’s legacy of love, purpose, and inheritance cannot be dictated by laws, politics, or circumstances. As believers in Christ, we cannot allow culture to shape our views when Satan is the number one influencer in culture. His ultimate goal is for us to forfeit our inheritances from God before we discover its true value. The enemy is so crafty that he can convince religious leaders to join his task force and preach his messages to the world: messages that rob people of their inheritances.
